The Family of an Addict

It is easy for me to understand the fear people have when they are confronted by those who abuse psychoactive substances. For the first 35 years of my life I thought keeping these substances from those senseless creeps would make for a tranquil society.

I have closely watched our law enforcement and judicial system attempting to accomplish this feat with more powers, larger forces, stiffer penalties, and more political support for 31 years. I see our country of 300 million become the family of an alcoholic/drug addict. We are going to see the drug addict never get drugs or alcohol. We fight and kill but we are not going to talk about it. If we did somebody might think we have an alcoholic in the house. We scream and yell at each other and we awake, all is well. We go about our business as if nothing has happened. Daddy is drinking again but mama is charge. We will go hide while she does it.

Will we never look at our own actions and stop looking at the addict? Will we ever think we can actually stop the addict from putting psychoactive substances into his body? Will we ever understand we do not have to?

I have learned from personal experience these senseless creeps are mentally ill and their families have become unable to cope with their illness.
There is a better way.
