The Courage to Change the Things I Can

I intended for this site to be an area for discussion about the drug laws in force today. I surf other sites for those that may have similar ideas. The more I look the more disappointed I get.First the problem is not the drug dealers and traders. They are entrepreneurs and capitalists . This is what this country was built upon and they not going away. We did not end slavery by locking up slave dealers and traders. It does not work that way. If there is a demand for a product then it is going to be sold. There are many way to regulate it but we connot stop the demand no more than we can put tooth paste back in the tube. Our country is spending better than 20B a year saying than can do this.

Second we know that drug addiction and alcoholism is an illness, so those that do not stop using drugs or alcohol we are going to make “em stop. That is very nice, but we cannot help these poor SOBs any more than the 19 psychiatrists that told me they could not help my alcoholism.

Here is the problem we have a group of people that put substances in their bodies that alter their mental processes. This causes them to act in way we do not approve. Most of these people have a defective brain and/or body that tells them they need that substance. Most likely born that way. Most do not behave badly if they do not have the substance in their body. Thus the folks that do not use such substances abusively think the solution lie in their ability to keep the disruptive substance from the abuser.

This creates the most serious spiritual dilemma we face today. Yes I said spiritual dilemma. We have a person whose brain is telling him to use something to alter his thinking and we have another person that says I am going to do everything in my power to keep you from using the any mind alter substance. Now you have the Drug War. Nobody is going to lay down their arms my friends. There is a solution if we can get the self righteous to talk about it. The common ground is there if we look.

Ok, now let us ask the self righteous what really bothers them. If they say anything but the disruptive acts carried out after the abuser uses. Then they are just a sorry bunch of SOBs and should be ignored. The next thing that must be considered what is the issue with him and abusing. He does not know it but he cannot stop. However in most cases he does not approve of his behavior after he uses anymore than anyone else.

The answer seems to me to lie in a very simple manner. Stop trying to stop the individual from abusing drug. But hold him responsible for all other bad behavior.

Most Luxurious Places To Dry Out

This is a must read for fellowship members. This story is as the title suggest, however there some statements you may like. I am listed them out of context but you have heard them before:

1 ………… feels the more spartan approach, used at older places such as The Betty Ford Clinic and the Hazelden Institute in Minnesota, is demeaning to patients. “Why should we punish someone for being an alcoholic by turning them into a cleaning person?”

2 According to Prentiss, Passages boasts a 91% success rate, and does not employ the 12-step program favored by the vast majority of centers. Instead, the program relies on one-to-one therapy sessions, and all patients undergo an electroencephalogram, or brain wave analysis.

The thought that impresses me is the 91% success rate. You and I both understand recovery from a spiritual illness is an exact science

Here Are some Poets talking about Melancholy.

Being a person that as suffered from Manic Depressive Disorder for 44 years, I can swear they know little or they know not how to write about the subject. Whichever, as you note I have posted very little in the past few days and wrote nothing. Melancholy is the reasonOde on Melancholy”: John Keats

She dwells with Beauty — Beauty that must die;
And Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips
Bidding adieu; and aching Pleasure nigh,
Turning to poison while the bee-mouth sips:
Ay, in the very temple of Delight
Veil’d Melancholy has her sovran shrine,
Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongue
Can burst Joy’s grape against his palate fine;
His soul shall taste the sadness of her might,
And be among her cloudy trophies hung.

Melancholy of Jason Kleander, Poet in Kommagini, A.D. 595

The ageing of my body and my beauty
is a wound from a merciless knife.
I’m not resigned to it at all.
I turn to you, Art of Poetry,
because you have a kind of knowledge about drugs:
certain sedatives, in Language and Imagination.

It’s a wound from a merciless knife.
Bring your drugs, Art of Poetry-
they do relieve the pain at least for a while.

Why didn’t you save the school children at… This does not fit into the relationship I have with God. I never ask God why He does not follow my will.

Dear Concerned Student: You except me to believe God would give this political answer
I am not allowed in schools. Any Child, Adolescent & Adult can seek out a relationship with God in any school in this nation. This statement is false, totally false
Sincerely,

God (a person with a political agenda)
How did this get started.. .
Let’s see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O’Hare complained she didn’t want any prayer in our schools. The Supreme Court of the land said in a 1962 court decision it is not proper for a Public School that receives public money to force children to pray.

And we said, OK..
Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the Bible that says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbors as yourself, Reading from the Bible or the Qur’an is forcing religion on children

And we said, OK…
Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem. And we said, an expert should know what he’s talking about so we won’t spank them anymore… I do believe that surety of punishment is much more effective then severity of punishment

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don’t want any bad publicity, and we surely don’t want to be sued. And we accepted their reasoning.. God said this for sure

Then someone said, let’s let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won’t even have to tell their parents And we said, that’s a grand idea… I got it. Abortions doctors killed all those students in the High Schools

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they’re going to do it anyway, let’s give our sons all the condoms they want, so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won’t have to tell their parents they got them at school.
And we said, that’s another great idea… Now I understand Condoms killed those children

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn’t matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp And we said, it doesn’t matter what anybody, including the President, does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good… I guess I misunderstood Slick Willie killed all those students

And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them available on the Internet. And we said, everyone’s entitled to free speech…. Now I am all messed up the porn sellers did it. Right?

And the entertainment industry said, let’s make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex… And let’s record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes… And we said, it’s just entertainment and it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead… I am totally lost we started out here with innocent School children being killed, but I do not know????

Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.
Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I’m sure it has a great deal to do with…
WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,

When political activists write letters impersonating God, then you know why our founders fathers did not want our government to get involved in religion. Nor is it hard to understand why the Supreme Court of the land in a 1962 said it is not proper for a Public Schools to force children to pray. They said we have enough religious nuts out there without training more

New Study of 12,000 Teens Shows Bush Abstinence Scheme Does Not Work

“Teens who make a one-time pledge to remain virgins until marriage catch sexually transmitted diseases about as often as those who don’t pledge abstinence, according to a study of the sex lives of 12,000 adolescents. Those who make a public pledge to delay sex also wind up having fewer sex partners and get married earlier, the research shows. But the two groups’ STD rates were statistically similar. One of the problems, researchers found, is that virginity ‘pledgers’ are less likely to use condoms when they do have sex. ‘It’s difficult to simultaneously prepare for sex and say you’re not going to have sex,’ said Peter Bearman, chairman of Columbia University’s sociology department, who coauthored the study with Hannah Bruckner of Yale University. ‘The message is really simple: ‘Just say no’ may work in the short term but doesn’t work in the long term.It does not work for Priests either.

Nor does it work for drugs. Nancy Reagan tied this “just say no” did not work then does not work now.

I told you so, I like saying I told you so

We have a very strict method for changing our Constitution very minutely. With a 2/3 majority in Senate and House of Representatives, then we send to the state, 3/4 of the state legislatures approval then it is part of the Constitution.

We have gone to the Middle East bombed the hell out of a country for reasons nobody knows except the the well financed despots surrounding dubya. We give them a piece of paper to sign that nobody in Iraq and most of the rest of the world has any idea what it says and then say they got a “Constitution”. Now we say rule yourself. This is all put together so dubya can be the pResident for 4 more years. If you believe Iraq have a workable Constitution then vote for dubya again. This link requires registrationLink hard to find
