Weirdharold AddressThe Baptists

7/11/1993

I became a Baptist 40 years ago this month. I strayed away from the Church of my parents and the Spiritual Truths of that fellowship. That departure spirit led me into a life of self will run riot.

I have always proclaimed my faith as a Baptist and most likely, I always will. However, when I made a decision to turn my life over to Jesus Christ it was geographically impossible for me to be involved with the Baptist Church. This has been true for the past 17 1/2 years.

Last month my family and I moved to Tupelo and we have been looking for a new church to attend. This morning I was watching a TV program with a alleged Baptist Minister trying to sell a set of video tapes. These tapes describe our country’s ills and how to resolve them. It showed some graphic scenes of public officials behaving in ways contrary to this alleged minister’s predilections

My wife & I later attend worship service where we met a very charismatic minister. He began a 40 minute lecture on the tenets of child rearing. Of things I heard noteworthy were: fathers should purchase dowels to bring down the rod on their offsprings, the order of authority in God’s Plan, Jesus Christ over the Church, men over their families, husband and wives over their children, women submissive to their husbands and obedient to elders in the fellowship of the church. In his explanation of God’s plan he came up short of advocating masters over their servants. Another thought brought down singles mothers as handicapped (I wonder how he would class Mary, Mother of Jesus)

As I listened to ministers stereotype groups and generalize the behavior of others. I wonder if there are any Baptists out there who believe in the original Baptist thought that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and through Him our sins are forgiven, through remission not by the close scrutiny of others.

Are there any out there who believe the only power God has given us is Victory over our sins? The only way to to remain Victorious is to maintain the courage to pass this along to others.

Do not we Baptists know that political activism, squabbles over money and prestige only divert us from our relationship with Jesus Christ? Are there any out there in the hinterlands who can tell a cleric from a political activist? Can anybody out there say they have a relationship with Jesus Christ and will have tomorrow no matter who turns gay or who has an abortion. or no matter who is elected head jerk of Pitsville, USA? Can you still remain faithful if your child is not allowed to hear a prayer at a public school written by the head Baptist cleric.

I have heard much from the lips of ministers upon what it takes to be a Christian, but the best came from my mother upon my first visit after her brothers death. She was grief stricken and express sadness because she had not been present at the moment of his death. I stated to her there was very little aid and comfort she could have given since he died of a heart attack outside shoveling snow, “He must have died before he hit the ground”. How could you have helped?” She replied, “I could have held his hand!”
Sometime after Dubya became President, I started identifying myself as a Christian non affiliated. I no longer call myself a Baptist.

Dear Mr. Donaldson,

RE: Your discussion on drugs “This Week With David Brinkly”
Note The Date. Still Material TodayI was born before the out break of WW II in central Kentucky. My parents were fundamental Christians and of course very anti-alcohol. No person could have had more instruction on the ill effects of alcohol than I.

However on a warm June night in 1960, after a quarrel with a girlfriend, I decided to indulge in alcohol to the point of drunkenness. The full knowledge of possible long term effects his act might entail did not sway my decision one way or the other. It is my opinion that I became an alcoholic that night.

Over the next 15 years much effort was put forth to stop my drinking. Mostly my wife through control of the checkbook. Simultaneously she took over my responsibilities to the point that I thought I could not survive without her. I also resented her assuming these duties.

After a night of serious drinking, blackouts and many other symptoms of long term alcoholism, I was confronted by my wife with the checkbook in hand stating that the family finances were mine to use or abuse whatever I saw as necessary. She also stated that if I elected to dispose of it on alcohol that she and our son could fend for themselves. That was the last time I used alcohol for any purpose other than after-shave lotion.

My experiences lead me to draw some conclusions that few hold as everyday truths:

1. Consumption of alcohol is not a moral issue.
2. No amount of public or peer pressure can stop an alcoholic from drinking.
3. The only person more insane than an alcoholic who continues to drink is the one trying to make him/her stop.

I am sure the same applies to drugs.

Weird Harold Responds to Purported Rooney Email

There is an email running around with quotes purported to be said by Andy Rooney. The chances of these things actually being said by Rooney are pretty slim. However, Weird Harold has nevertheless decided to respond to each point in this email, regardless of who said them. Read below for the email and the response.

Original email is in quotes. Respond is in bold:

“I like big cars, big boats, big motorcycles, big houses and big campfires.”

Weirdharold says: Whata you want me to say, ‘Good Taste”, I do not think so.

“I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some governmental stooge with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts for squirting out babies.”

Weirdhaold says: are you saying you can go out and steal anything you want? “The money I make” how do you make it, where do you make it and who aids you in making it? Check that come back and let’s talk some more.

“Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.”

Weirdhaold says: You are really making me feel safe!!

“I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?”

Weirdharold says: Little boy and little girls cannot get together? Where have you been the last 2,000,000 years.

“I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.”

Weirdharold says: No, it is intolerance.

“I don’t think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens. Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.”

Weirdharold says: okay, 400 years of slavery, 100 years of Jim Crow, 37 years of Affirmative Action. Which are you more comfortable with.

“I have the right ‘NOT’ to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.”

Weirdharold says: No, it is more intolerance.

“When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.”

Weirdharold says: Boy o boy that is creative research, you not even close to the facts, That is you second racist intolerant statement.

“I know what sex is, and there are not varying degrees of it. If I received sex from one of my subordinates in my office, it wouldn’t be a private matter or my personal business. I would be “FIRED” immediately!”

Weirdharold says: Why has Henry Hyde still have a job.

“I believe that if you are selling me a milk shake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!”

Weirdharold says: No comment.

“My father and grandfather didn’t die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry self if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can’t understand the
word “freeze” or “stop” in English, see the above lines.”

Weirdharold says: Do your rules apply to rednecks.

“I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation recount votes when needed. I know what the definition of lying is.”

Weirdharold says: Why didn’t the supreme court select our president under your rules.

“I don’t think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.”

Weirdharold says: I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about.

“We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.”

Weirdharold says: Sounds like French bashing to me.

“I don’t hate the rich. I don’t pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn’t stop you from watching them.”

Weirdharold says: Speak English please.

“I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell’s Angel with an attitude.”

Weirdharold says: You gotta love them all.

“I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that’s better, and put your name on the building. Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.”

Weirdharold says: If you think that being infected with worms and virii is better than anything else out there, then that is fine. The problem is with Miscrosoft being a convicted monopolist engaging in anti-competetive practices. Maybe you think that is ok, but there are laws against such things for a reason. Also, if you have any important documents in Word or Excel format, just remember that when Microsoft says you can’t read them, then you can’t read them.

“It doesn’t take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say ‘NO'”

Weirdharold says: Sounds a lot like a childless adult.

“I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don’t pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don’t want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me french fries!”

Weirdharold says: I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about.

“I am sick of ‘Political Correctness.’ I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be “African-Americans”? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don’t go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.”

Weirdharold says: That is your third racist intolerant statement.

“And if you don’t like my point of view, tough. DON’T PASS IT ON!!”
